A successful licensee is giving people the chance to win his £700,000 bar in Spain by throwing a custard pies in faces of MPs.

John Walker, from Blackpool in Lancashire, is so fed up with the lack of help politicians are giving the British pub that he has set up an online competition.

Players visiting his website pick from a range of senior politicians - including Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Peter Mandelson and Alistair Darling - and throw virtual pies in their faces.

If they manage to strike the target more than six times they are then offered the chance to pay £50 to be in with a chance of winning the freehold to Someplace Else - the sports bar and restaurant in Malaga John has owned for the last three years.

He said: "People are sick and tired of reading about how our MPs have claimed countless thousands at the taxpayers expense whilst many of our pubs are struggling.

"This is their chance to relieve some of their anger and frustration - and the reward could be a new life in Spain, away from all the restrictions that are hampering the great British pub."

The prize also includes 12 months free accommodation in a nearby two bedroom apartment.

So far more than 84,000 people have played the game with more than 4,000 entering the competition - but a further 10,000 will be needed if John is to hit £700,000.

John, who is focusing on other business interests in Spain and the UK, added: "I have had three fabulous summers at Someplace Else and I thought this would be an exciting and novel way of giving somebody else the chance to enjoy the lifestyle I have enjoyed there.

"I can buy my beer from who I want and the bar is not beset with the restrictions and rules which have affected the British pub industry. I am not tied to anyone."

He added that as the competition - which also asks entrants to complete a Sudoku puzzle - is a game of skill it is compliant with Gambling Commission rules.
