An event at a Pitcher and Piano (P&P) bar featuring the strapline "stay beautiful with Martini" has fallen foul of advertising rules.

An event at a Pitcher and Piano (P&P) bar featuring the strapline "stay beautiful with Martini" has fallen foul of advertising rules.

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has upheld a complaint against the email ad for the event at the Pitcher & Piano in Didsbury, Greater Manchester, saying it "irresponsibly implied that alcohol could enhance attractiveness".

The email promised an "evening of beauty" that included complimentary samples of the new Martini Rosato drink.

In a joint response, Marston's-owned P&P and Bacardi-Martini said the ads promoted the importance of staying in control through moderate consumption.

They said the "Stay Beautiful" line reinforced the message that the women were just as beautiful at the end of the evening as the start.

The ASA said the reference to a beautiful evening was "not prominent enough to counteract the overall impression that Martini helped recipients to stay beautiful".

The ASA ruled that the email must not appear again in its current form.
