Spirit has become the first pubco to take on draught alcohol-free beer, Estrella Galicia 0.0.

The Spanish brewer began offering alcohol-free kegs in July after the success of its 250ml bottle in the on and off-trade.

Chris Beck, buying manager at Spirit, said: “Many of our Chef & Brewer pubs are destination venues where there is very often a dedicated driver within the group. Estrella Galicia 0.0 allows our guests to enjoy a flavoursome pint of lager without worrying about counting the alcohol units.”

Mark Johnson, from Bibendum PLB Group, which distributes the drink, said: “Putting an alcohol-free beer on the bar raises the awareness of a product all too often placed on the bottom shelf of the fridge. Alcohol-free beer accounts for approx. 11% of total beer sales in Spain and it’s great to see that the UK market is now ready for a change, with Spirit at the forefront.”

Estrella Galicia first arrived in the UK at the end of 2012 and last year celebrated its official launch, focusing on its three key varieties for the UK – Estrella Galicia 0.0, Premium 4.7% and the 1906 Reserva Especial.
