There’s still an opportunity for all pub companies to test their mettle against their contemporaries following a week’s extension to the Publican Awards 2016 entry deadline.

You’re in the last-chance saloon for getting your entries in for the Publican Awards 2016 because the deadline is this week (Friday 13 November).

The Publican Awards, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, is the leading awards event for the pubco sector, championing excellence across a range of categories.

This year’s event will see the awards move to an exciting new venue, Evolution in Battersea, which will allow the organisers, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser (PMA), to pull out all the stops to make the 25th anniversary party bigger than ever.

Ed Bedington, editor of PMA, said: “These awards are the premiership of the pub sector and we’re delighted with the response in terms of entrants for this, it’s 25th anniversary year. We’ve got some brilliant businesses that are competing for some top titles, and if you’re still fiddling with your entry, you’ll need to be quick to be in with a chance of taking part in this celebratory year.

“These awards are the chance to showcase your business, attract new talent and recruit new operators to your brand. They allow you to stand out and celebrate all the great work that goes on in this sector — and there’s a great deal to celebrate! The awards also give you a real chance to MOT your business, put it up on the blocks and give it an independent third-party audit from industry experts. It’s a great health check of your operations.”

The awards celebrate excellence across 17 different categories, and the first rounds of judging will be getting under way soon.

The awards final takes place on the 15 March and will see the great and the good of the industry gather in Battersea to celebrate success.

Bedington added: “If you’ve not got your entry in yet, this is the last-chance saloon, and we’d love to have as many of you on board as possible — these awards are a benchmark for excellence, so you need to be in it.”

Great recognition for Whitbread

“We were thrilled to be recognised for the Best Pub Employer award at the Publican Awards last year, giving us not only a great platform to talk about the work we’ve been doing to engage our 15,000 team members, but endorsement that our business is one of the best in the industry,” says Whitbread Restaurants HR director Paul Mitford.

“Our work has continued to evolve and we’re working hard to attract great chefs and front-of-house team members into our restaurant business, to give them brilliant training linked to pay, recognition for great service and fantastic food to every guest and encouragement for everyone to progress their careers right from the start.”
