Oro releases first of three new variants

Oro strawberry gin

Family-owned Oro Distilling Co., has launched a new Strawberry Gin, the first of three new launches planned to form the brands Nitro Collection.

Created using an innovative, pressurised extraction method, which involves passing nitrogen into a pressure-stable vessel containing Oro Gin, Madagascan vanilla, Sri Lankan cracked black pepper and British strawberries.

Under conditions exceeding three times atmospheric pressure, the alcohol rapidly penetrates the surface of the strawberries, then, on removing the nitrogen (de-gassing), the key flavour compounds alongside a vivid, natural red colour, are extracted and stabilised to create Oro Strawberry.

The whole process is conducted without heat and in an inert atmosphere, allowing Oro to closely control extraction levels and ensure no unwanted side effects – such as oxidation – can take place.

Oro head distiller Ray Clynick Jr said: “Traditional extraction methods can draw unwanted green characteristics from strawberries, which are far from the juicy flavours consumers expect.

“We’re always searching for scientific solutions to production challenges, so we’re delighted with Oro Strawberry and feel that its vibrant, natural flavours set it apart from others on the market. We’re currently working on the next two products in our Nitro Collection, Bramble and Tropical Rum, and look forward to sharing them with our customers.”

Best served with tonic, fresh strawberries and a sprig of mint, Oro Strawberry Gin is available now at RRP £28 for a 70cl bottle direct the distillery webshop.

Salcombe Brewery head brewer, Sam Beaman said: “We are thrilled with the latest addition to our small batch range.

“When it came to naming our new beer, we took inspiration from the many maritime explorations and adventures that have set off from Devon, across the Atlantic, and returned with exotic ingredients. Atlas is the Greek god after whom the Atlantic is named.”

The new serve will be available for the trade through a number of wholesalers or direct from the breweries webshop from Monday 11 July at RRP £24 for 12x330ml cans or 9kg casks.
