Key personnel: Simon Townsend, chief executive; Ted Tuppen, former chief executive
A changing of the guard — of sorts — at the top of the country’s largest operator of leased and tenanted pubs, with controversial boss Ted Tuppen stepping down after more than 20 years in charge. He has been replaced by long-time deputy Simon Townsend, who himself has been with the company for 15 years. In recent months, the company has launched a new food-club for tenants, revealed plans for a new online ordering platform and revamped training for its regional managers. In May, the pubco also made its first foray into the managed sector, with the opening of the St James of Bermondsey, in south London.
