7 Marston’s
Key personnel: Ralph Findlay, chief executive; Colin Sadler, Revere Pub Company MD
Marston’s used the Chancellor’s Budget beer-duty cut in March to announce it was creating 3,000 new jobs during the next two years, mostly as part of its pub-restaurant new-build programme. The company courted controversy in November last year, when it sold 202 pubs for £90m to NewRiver Retail, which intends to convert the portfolio for alternative use. Co-op convenience stores are due to be built on 54 of those sites, in land adjacent to the pubs. Revere — the company’s premium pubco led by Colin Sadler — now comprises an 18-strong Pitcher & Piano estate and an unbranded portfolio.
