Stella Artois Cidre bottles recalled

The recall applies to 568ml single bottles and 12-568ml cases, with batch codes of 1182381, 1214381 and 1217381, and best before dates of April or May 2012.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a product recall notice and said: “Due to yeast contamination, there is a risk of fermentation that may cause the bottles to burst unexpectedly.”

The FSA warned: “Do not consume or handle the product further.”

Anyone who has received the products are advised to “handle the bottles carefully, wearing gloves and protective eyewear, to determine if the product is from the affected batch on an individual bottle”.

The batch code is printed on the bottle’s neck. On a 12-pack, the batch code can be located on the long side of the pack, to the right of the barcode.

Anyone with affected bottles is advised to call AB-InBev on 0800 0731736 between 8am and 8pm.

The brewer said in a statement: “A small number of 568ml Stella Artois Cidre bottles have burst and AB-InBev UK is taking the measure of recalling all the potentially affected bottles.

“The potentially affected bottles come from three batches. No other Stella Artois products are affected.

“The safety of our consumers is our primary concern.

“We are working closely with the Food Standards Agency to take all necessary action, and have moved quickly to understand and identify the issue and taken action. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
