Industry mourns 'Bill the Till'

A former well known industry figure, William Maguire, has passed away at the age of 94.

William, who was known to many in the trade as “Bill the Till” was a well-known character in the trade throughout the 1970s and 1980s, selling cash registers and later moving into spirits dispensers.

His son, Mark Maguire, said: “He was involved in the Licensed Victuallers National Homes charity in Denham being president of the Marylebone ladies auxiliary and organising fundraising events including an annual greyhound racing night at Wimbledon and Wembley stadiums.” 

He passed away peacefully on 27 January at home in Earlswood, Surrey, where he lived with his wife Valerie.

A funeral will be held this week, 15 February at the Surrey and Sussex Crematorium, Balcombe Road, Crawley at 11.45pm.
