Staff members from Browns, Mitchells & Butlers' bar and restaurant chain, will be celebrating the brand's 30th birthday this year.

The first Browns opened in Brighton in April 1973 and was followed by many other restaurants in London, Oxford, Edinburgh and Leeds, among others.

Now the company has launched a national competition to find the face of Browns from its outlets up and down the country.

Staff will be judged on everything from their appearance and service style to their knowledge of the wine list and menu.

A finalist will be chosen from each outlet and they will then travel to London for a national final where the face of Browns will be chosen.

Specially-commissioned sticks of Browns rock will be available in each outlet for customers to take away, and the Brighton restaurant commissioned a local artist to create a painting of the building which was unveiled last week.

Sue Drummond, general manager of the Brighton outlet, said: "I am very proud to be associated with the first ever Browns, the 30th birthday is a really significant landmark. I hope I'm still here when we're celebrating its 50th!"
