A new gastropub in one of Bolton's more affluent areas is pitching its appeal to some well-heeled customers.

New licensees Paul and Lisa Duckworth believe the Spread Eagle in Eagley is ideal for an upmarket food offering, aiming at clientele such as Premiership footballers living in the area.

Having been originally converted from a row of cottages into a pub and later a bistro, the Spread Eagle is undergoing a £230,000 investment from owners Punch Taverns.

Paul said: "Eagley is a developing area which is attracting more affluent residents and we are perfectly poised to contribute to the community with a quality drinking and dining venue."

As part of the revamp, the restaurant is being extended and a large outdoor patio area is being developed with seating for up to 24 people.

Each cottage will house a different offering; one a traditional pub room, one a bar and the other a dining area.

Lisa's background is in catering and, working with head chef Paul Clutton, she is developing a menu which will fuse contemporary English dishes with Thai and other popular Asian food.

The couple hope to make the Spread Eagle a regular drinking and eating spot for residents and are inviting them to an exclusive preview night prior to the pub's official opening in mid to late September.
