Pubs 2B Inn claims it is taking action against licensees Brian and Pauline Parker of the Black Horse in Hellifield, North Yorkshire to avoid confrontation with local residents.

This morning the six members of staff including a stocktaker and two locksmiths have turned up to close the pub. Pubs 2B Inn says the licensees can stay living in the pub until Thursday although they are unable to trade.

Licensee Pauline Parker contacted thepublican.com this morning fearful she would have to deal with all six people on her own.

A spokeswoman for Pubs 2B Inn has now contacted thepublican.com claiming they were forced to take early action as they feared a protest from local residents on Thursday (October 12).

"We have changed the pub locks but we don't want the hassle for the new people coming in. We are not throwing them out although they are welcome to stay until Thursday. We are only here because we don't want the confrontation on Thursday," she said.

The couple earn a salary based on a percentage of sales and the company has confirmed it will reimburse them for the two days of no trading.

She confirmed the pub would reopen on Friday with new managers.

In the letter from company director Mr Ford which was sent to a local resident, thepublican.com would like to clarify he said: "We as a company feel it is not financially viable to continue subsiding their wages bill."

The couple claimed they were being treated unfairly by pub company Pubs 2B Inn after being placed through rogue recruitment company Inn-Direct.
