A Norfolk pub has been reopened by the former owner of pubco Animal Inns.

Henry Watt, who sold the four-site company in 2012, is to operate freehold the Sugar Beat Eating House on the outskirts of Norwich, Norfolk.

The site, which was known as the Dun Cow and has been closed for two years, has been acquired by Simon and Hazel Cruickshank and is the pair's first site.

Sugar Beat, which has four bedrooms, will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. It also features a large lawned area for weddings and parties, along with a function room for conferences and corporate events.

Watt said: "Much has changed over the last couple of years in terms of what an eating and drinking venue needs to be able to offer its customers. It's not good enough to be serving great food and a reasonable selection of beers, wines and spirits."

He added: "Customers want to know you completely understand them inside and out, so that's why we've tailored SugarBeat to meet the needs of the people of Norwich, the A140 commuter, the family that want a great menu, the overnighter needing easy access to Norwich, or the professional or sales team who want to use wifi while meeting at a good location."

Watt’s team at the Sugar Bear includes general manager Stevie King and head chef Alan Leech.

The menu

Dishes on offer include Virgin Mary eggy bread (£6.50); New York Cobb salad (£8.95); and taster plates which are £9.95 for three or £3.95 for one.  Taster plate options include: Edamame beans & sesame dip, Spanish meat balls & tomato sauce and salt and pepper squid.

A bowls section includes chunky chilli, prawn laska and sticky chilli chicken. Sides include beat slaw and puddings feature banana split (£5.95) and Beat chocolate sundae for two (£8.50).
