  • Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries is one of the few companies to report solid sales over Christmas, with like for like sales in its tenanted estate rising by 5.1 per cent.   • Scottish & Newcastle (S&N) is planning to cut 500 jobs from its Scottish Courage distribution operation. This revelation comes after rumours that the company may close at least one of its five breweries, which could lead to a further 200 job losses. Any job cuts are part of S&N's plans to reduce costs by £45m a year.

High rollers from the US gaming industry are heading for Britain thanks to the deregulation of the betting and gaming industry in the UK. Speculation is that Britain could become the gaming mecca of Europe. Last week UK-based greyhound racing tracks and casinos operator Wembley received a £270m offer from MGM Mirage, the Las Vegas-based gaming giant.

  • A wristband used to identify underage drinkers has been hailed as a new weapon to fight underage drinkers and antisocial behaviour.

Supermodel Kate Moss claims she has been overcharged £6,500 by Claridges hotel in London after her 30th birthday party. The hotel is demanding the extra cash, part of a total bill of £20,000, for staff overtime, after the party carried on until 8am.
