Drunk blinded karaoke organiser

A man who blinded a woman with a glass and hit her 14-year-old daughter, because he wanted to sing at karaoke at an Oxfordshire pub, has been jailed for three years and three months.

Fred Butcher, 35, tried to grab the mic from another man, and when karaoke organiser Michelle Bailey tried to intervene, he smashed a glass in her face. She was blinded in one eye.

Oxford Crown Court heard that he struck Bailey's daughter in the face when she went to comfort her, and also assaulted the woman's husband, Steven. Butcher, of Milton Road, Bloxham, originally denied the attacks at the Partridge pub on 21 August. But on the day of his trial last month, he pleaded guilty to two charges of assault by beating, and unlawful wounding with malicious intent.

The court heard that MIchelle Bailey might have to have her eye removed.

John Harrison, mitigating, said Butcher was drunk at the time and was "deeply ashamed" of what he had done.
