A Mitchells & Butlers manager and two Whitbread employees have been shortlisted in this year’s Women 1st Shine Awards.

Claire Maynard, retail business manager at M&B, is one of five contenders in the running for the Stepping Up title – a category which was introduced for the first time last year.

It is open to women who are progressing through the ranks of middle management and have shown real commitment to their roles. The winner will be matched with a career mentor.

Meanwhile, Louise Smalley, group human resources director at Whitbread, which owns pub chains Beefeater Grill and Brewers Fayre, has been shortlisted for Woman of the Year. The company’s head of HR shared services Susan Gomes is up for the Lifetime Achievement accolade.

The winners will be announced at a dinner on 16 September at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square. The evening will also see Women 1st inducting 10 new members into its Top 100 Club, a network of the most influential women in the hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism industries.
