The survey by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) found Tom Jones was the British pop/rock star people would most like to have a pint with at the Great British Beer Festival, which starts next week.
Those polled resisted the temptation to be entertained by Robbie Williams and didn’t have the patience for Gary Barlow. A total of 7% of the 672 polled would walk on broken glass for a drink with Annie Lennox while the same percentage fancied chasing pavements after a session with Adele.
But it was the Welsh crooner who came out on top, and according to CAMRA national chairman, Colin Valentine, he will be welcome at Olympia from Tuesday.
“It is great to see Tom Jones at 74 years old top the poll and that age is not an issue when choosing a drinking partner”, he said. “I am sure Tom would be able to tell some wonderful stories over a pint or two and if he is in London next week then I’d be more than delighted to buy the first round.”
Valentine said he was keen for more music stars to share their love for real ale, as Katy Perry did when she supped a local brew at each leg of her UK tour – taking in London Pride and Bank’s Mild.
The Great British Beer Festival takes place from Tuesday to Saturday. Tickets can be bought on the door. For more information visit www.gbbf.org.uk
