Home improvement company Everest will hold the official launch of its charity foundation at Britain’s highest altitude pub, the Tan Hill Inn, in North Yorkshire, on 22 February.

The Everest Lewis Golden Foundation, named in honur of one of Everest’s founders, Lewis Golden OBE who passed away in late 2017, has been set up to provide financial support to help those striving to achieve a goal or ambition.

Everest’s marketing director Martin Troughton explained: “Lewis Golden established Everest back in 1965, building a foundation from which the best double glazing company in the UK would grow.

“We at Everest are enormously proud that his inspiring legacy of success and philanthropy will live on through the Everest Lewis Golden Foundation.”

The Tan Hill Inn in the Yorkshire Dales has a long-standing relationship with Everest, which used the blustery conditions around the pub as a feature for TV adverts for its double-glazing installation as far back as the 1980s.

Discussing the significance of the choice of the Tan Hill Inn as a venue for the official launch, Troughton added: “The Tan Hill Inn was the obvious choice for us, as over the years we’ve come to consider it as Everest’s spiritual home.

“Tan Hill provided the backdrop for our first advert with Ted Moult back in 1985, which really brought Everest into the public consciousness, as well as launching Craig Doyle as the new ‘face of Everest’ some 10 years ago.

“Now, as we embark on this new and exciting initiative, it’s only right that we celebrate it with our friends at the Tan Hill Inn, along with some of the other people who have played a part in making us the successful business we are today.”

Everest employees and selected customers have been invited to the the Tan Hill Inn for the official launch alongside Irish TV and radio presenter Craig Doyle and TV gardener David Domoney, who has worked with the home improvement company for the past three years.

Guests will also be joined by former serviceman Leslie Binns, who made his second attempt to conquer Mount Everest with sponsorship from the peak’s namesake home improvement company.

Special pint glasses and beer mats have also been created for the event that highlight Everest has been ‘soaking up the draughts’ at the Tan Hill Inn since 1985.

The Tan Hill Inn returned to the nation’s TV screens over the festive period in Waitrose’s Christmas advert.
