The pub was built in 1999 on the site of a former Battle of Britain RAF base, which inspired its name and that of Shepherd Neame’s signature range of Spitfire Kentish Ale, Spitfire Gold and Spitfire Lager.
Following a two-month refurbishment project, the pub’s ground floor has been divided into three separate areas, including a new restaurant, all revolving around a central bar.
The first floor has been transformed into a new private function room with its own bar and space to accommodate up to 100 people.
Two smaller function rooms have also been added, both of which can accommodate up to 20 people.
The site’s food offering has been given a wholesale revamp, with a new menu – featuring chargrill, breakfast, and classic pub dishes - introduced alongside a completely refitted kitchen.
A new awning has been installed at the front of the pub covering an alfresco dining area seating 16 people, while a new covered dining terrace has also been built in the garden, seating up to 40.
Nigel Bunting, director of retail and tenanted operations at Shepherd Neame, commented: “This year marks the 100th anniversary of the RAF, so we seem to have chosen a fitting time to reinvigorate the Spitfire.
“We are very proud of the pub’s distinctive, modern new look.
“The Spitfire has always been one of our most popular drinking and dining destinations, and we are confident that following our investment in the site, it will go from strength to strength.”
