The bare-all spirit of the Calender Girls has been catching on in the pub trade, with two pubs releasing cheeky calenders. Daring volunteers agreed to pose in next to nothing for calenders at the Peacock in Goole, Yorkshire, and the King's Head in Prestwood, Buckinghamshire. This is the second risqué calender from the Peacock the first was in 2002. The idea came from barmaid Michaela Leeden, whose grandmother suffered from breast cancer. Sixteen Yorkshire women, all regulars at the pub, agreed to take part. "We have ended up with a really good calender which is not bad for a bunch of complete amateurs like us," said licensee Vic Erwin. "Every one of the lasses deserves a medal for their efforts and it's really brought us together as a team." The Bucks beauties in the King's Head calender are all barmaids at the pub. The idea came from a customer who said the staff reminded him of characters from Hollyoaks. "The girls thought it was a really good idea," said licensee Dee Eden. "It's cheeky but everything is covered." Money raised from the King's Head calender will go to the Thomas Ball Charity, which offers holidays to child cancer sufferers. One thousand copies have been printed and £600 has already been raised in local sponsorship. The pubs follow in the footsteps of the ladies of Rylstone and District WI in North Yorkshire, whose decision to strip for their 2000 calender inspired the hit film Calender Girls. To order a copy of the Peacock calender call 01405 780980; for the King's Head calender phone 01494 868101.
