Gang use weapons in pub attack
A gang of men reportedly used knives, knuckle-dusters and other weapons in an attack on four drinkers at a Derby pub. One man was stabbed with what is believed to have been a screwdriver and another three received cuts and bruises during the incident at the Blue Peter in Alvaston. Police said between three and five men entered the pub at around 8.15pm on Sunday 5 September and attacked the four victims, who were playing pool at the time. All four men were taken to hospital and were later discharged. Eyewitnesses said the attackers described as black and between 21 and 30 years old fled the pub in a Renault car. Female host bound in armed pub raid A female licensee was tied up and threatened with a gun during an armed raid at her Lancashire pub. The 41-year-old was sleeping at the Old Boathouse pub in Higher Green Lane, Astley, Wigan when she was woken by a noise at around 3.45am on Tuesday last week. Three men wearing black balaclavas entered the bedroom, threatened her with a handgun and demanded money. She handed over a quantity of cash and the men tied her hands together before fleeing. Police seek witnesses to shooting Police suspect that a shooting at a south London pub, which left one man seriously injured, could be linked to an earlier fight outside the premises. A man wearing a black balaclava walked into the White Lion on Garratt Lane, SW17, and fired a number of shots, some of which seriously injured a customer. The attacker was seen leaving the pub in a dark, four-door saloon car, accompanied by two other men. Police last week said they believe the incident, on Tuesday 31 August, could be linked to a fight outside the White Heart on the previous Sunday. In this incident, people inside the pub rushed outside to break up the fight between 2am and 2.30am. The people who intervened sustained injuries. The suspect is described as black, 5ft 8ins, of medium build, wearing jeans and a dark top. Those involved in the fight outside the pub are described as two black males and three white males, all in their mid-20s. DS Neil Lemon said: "This seems to be an apparently unprovoked shooting." Pub intruders steal landlady's car Raiders broke into a Greater Manchester pub and stole the keys of the landlady's car before driving off in the vehicle last Thursday. The female host at the Bowling Green in Chorltonville had locked up for the night and was in the accommodation above the pub when she heard the sound of the back door being kicked in. The licensee and her friend hid in one of the rooms while the two intruders forced their way into the living area. They took the keys to the landlady's black Alfa Romeo before driving off at speed. They also stole her wallet, which contained cash and credit cards. Nobody was injured. Contact police on 0161 856 6145. Doorstaff accused of benefit fraud Police have arrested six people who they believe have been claiming state benefits while working as doorstaff at bars in Manchester city centre. The six, aged between 37 and 47, were arrested while working at a number of venues between 10pm and 12.30am on Saturday night and Sunday morning. The arrests were from a joint operation between police and the Department of Works and Pensions to crack down on benefit cheats. The people were bailed on Sunday morning, to appear in court at a later date.
