MasterChef judge and TV presenter John Torode is to run a pub in Cornwall.

The Seiners Arms in Perranporth was purchased by Malpaso, a company led by local resident and entrepreneur Rolf Munding. The management team includes John Torode and Alex George, formally of the Blue Bar in Porthtowan.

Torode will be reviewing and redesigning the food offering for the new operator.

Munding and Torode already share an interest in Smiths of Smithfield, London. Munding is also involved in the Wooden Hand Brewery in Cornwall and the Zatec Brewery in the Czech Republic.

A spokesman for the new owners said: "The intention over time is to bring a fresh outlook to the Seiners serving the residents of Perranporth and Cornwall and its visitors with a great value experience of excellent quality, well served, in one of Cornwall's most exciting locations."

The pub was built on the site of the old pilchard curing cellars and is now a multi-function bar/restaurant complex with 23 ensuite bedrooms and enclosed patio areas. In addition, the business has a civil marriage licence.
