McMullen in £1m revamp at pub
The Hertford-based family brewer McMullen has spent £1m revamping Grade II-listed pub the Nag's Head, in Bishop's Stortford.
McMullen, which owns 140 pubs in the region, bought the Nag's Head in January 2010 and spent the year restoring it.
The brewer employed art deco specialists to "ensure no original detail of the pub was left unrestored".
All features, including a nag's head painting above a fireplace and a snug, were kept to ensure the look of the pub remained art deco.
A walkway between the bar area and dining area was also unveiled. The Nag's Head is now one of a number of McMullen's historic pubs, including one of the same name in Covent Garden.
Production and sales director at the brewer, Fergus McMullen, said: "We are all incredibly excited to have the pub open and trading. Kath Warden, pub manager, and her team, are doing an excellent job and it is great to get such positive feedback from customers at this early stage of the pub's opening.
"The restoration has proved a challenge, but the pub is now somewhere for people to relax in stylish surroundings, eat real pub food and enjoy a great pint of McMullen's ale."
