Fred Moss, the man behind the launch of nightclubs such as Chinawhite, Aura and Mo*vida, is set to open a new venture in London's Covent Garden.

Moss is understood to have applied for an alcohol licence for a site in St Martin's Lane under the name Maddox Club.

The original Maddox, also Moss's brainchild, is a 200-capacity private members' club, and opened in Mayfair in 2007. It features a restaurant, cocktail bar and a basement nightclub.

It is unclear whether Moss will seek to repeat his operational philosophy at the Covent Garden site or launch a new format altogether.
