Tiny Rebel to give away free beers in return for donations to the homeless

Welsh brewery Tiny Rebel has announced a new initiative to help homeless people living in Cardiff and Newport, south Wales.

The brewery will be giving away free cans of its Cwtch welsh red ale to members of the public who donate food, clothes, toiletries and other useful items to help those living on the streets.

The number of free cans drinkers receive is dependent on the items donated. For example: toothpaste and cutlery entitles people to one free can of Cwtch, while a donation of a sleeping bag will result in a six-pack of beers.

Charity donation

Donations can be made at any one of Tiny Rebel’s three bars this Sunday (18 March), and the donated items will be given to Solas, a charity that provides a broad range of services for people who are vulnerable, homeless or at risk of homelessness.

A maximum of six cans will be allocated per person, and the brewery is operating a Challenge 25 policy on any donors wanting beer in return for their contributions. All food donations must be in date and unopened, and underwear and socks have to be new.

Tiny Rebel events manager Alice Hayward said: "Homelessness is, sadly, a rising problem and is an issue I feel passionately about. From a conversation with our bar managers, we were trying to come up with a way that we could help as a brewery, bearing in mind the social responsibilities that come with that!"

Passionate about community

She added: “It has evolved into this partnership with Solas Cymru and I'm so excited to see what we can achieve from the incredible local community we have here in south Wales."

Tiny Rebel marketing manager Niall Thomas added: “It's a really great initiative that came about from a conversation between our events manager Alice and our bar teams. They're all really passionate about the communities they live in, whether they're local natives, students who have made the area their home or here for some other reason.

“They've decided that one of their priorities is to contribute to a higher purpose, and they're showing that pubs still have something to contribute to their communities. We couldn't be prouder of them.”
