Stonegate Pub Company’s chief executive Simon Longbottom has been elected to the annual Maserati 100 list of the UK’s top entrepreneurs.

Longbottom, who was voted Business Leader of The Year at The Publican Awards 2019, was chosen by The Sunday Times readers to feature in the list – which is in its fifth year.

Stonegate’s chief executive has been recognised alongside hospitality heavyweights such as Shamil and Javi Thakrar of Dishoom; Martin Thatcher of Thatchers Cider and Martin Williams of M Restaurants.

The inclusion follows Stonegate’s strong performance in the 53 weeks to 30 September 2018, which saw the business grow from 725 sites to 772, acquiring and integrating Be At One and additional sites from Novus Leisure.

Moreover, across the same period the pubco’s revenue rose by 11% to £774.4m with adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation) increasing by 11% to £114.9m

Bar to boardroom culture recognised

Stonegate Pub Company celebrated claiming the Best Community Pub Operator, Best Pub Employer (501+ employees) and Best Managed Pub Company (51+ sites) prizes at the 2019 Publican Awards, with recent acquisition, Be At One taking home the title of Best Drinks Offer.

“I am delighted that Stonegate has been recognised in this year’s Maserati 100 List,” Longbottom commented.

“The business’s inclusion is testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff across the country.

“At the heart of our business is a bar to boardroom culture. We are proud of our track record of investing in people which has enabled us to develop a talented and innovative team who drive our success.

“The UK is a hotbed of entrepreneurship and it is a privilege for us to be recognised alongside some truly innovative businesses.

“Our recognition stems from our proven ability to deliver on a clear strategy.

“Not only did we enjoy a strong performance in 2018, but our acquisitions bolstered our multi-format approach and demonstrated our commitment to consolidating the UK’s drink-led market.”
