The latest issue of The Morning Advertiser is out now – but what can readers expect from our first digital-only edition?

Unsurprisingly, the 6 April issue – the first in The Morning Advertiser’s (MA) more than 225-year history not to appear in print – focuses on the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the impact it is having on pubs and their operators, and how the trade can push on amid uncertainty.

To help publicans through these challenging times, we take a closer look at how operators can launch takeaway and delivery services from their premises (p4-9), what financial support is at the on-trade’s disposal (p10-11), and hear from experts about the dos and don’ts of closing down a cellar with tips on keg, cask and postmix drinks (p12).

What’s more, award-winning publican Brendan Padfield of the Unruly Pig in Bromeswell, Suffolk, opens up about the realities faced by operators during lockdown (p14), while UKHospitality chief executive Kate Nicholls reminds customers not to lose hope in these difficult times – stressing that support is out there for those who need it (p14).

On top of this, specialist licensing solicitors Poppleston Allen shed some light on the ongoing saga by issuing advice to help publicans navigate the current choppy industry waters and answer your questions in its latest legal Q&A (p16-17).

Elsewhere, MA managing editor Nic Robinson speaks to Diageo’s Dayalan Nagayar about his hopes for the sector once the world regains some form of normality and how he believes Diageo can be at the forefront of industry innovation (p20-23).

Writer Phil Mellows also draws on the spirit shown by the on-trade during the world wars to offer inspiration to the pubs of today as they face their biggest peacetime challenge (p42-43).

And there’s plenty more to read as well.

Where to read the 6 April issue?

“We will be changing our magazine to an e-reader version and producing one issue per month during this pandemic. Because many of our readers’ premises are closed, they are not going to receive the printed copy,” MA publisher Chris Lowe explained.

“This was a big decision, of course. However, our biggest reason for this short-term (we hope) change is that we want to make our content as widely available to as many businesses in hospitality as possible. And, of course, an e-reader version of our magazine enables us to do just this efficiently.

“So we will, with immediate effect, make all issues, for the duration of lockdown available on e-readers to all – for free.”
