The manager of a Nottingham pub was tied up for more than three hours while his premises was raided. Two men, one armed with a gun and the other with a knife, broke in to the Trent Navigation on Meadow Lane at around 4am last Thursday. They tied up the manager and fled at around 7.30am with the pub's safe, which contained cash and expensive items. The manager was able to free himself and called the police. He was said to be unhurt but shaken. The raiders had their faces covered, but are believed to be both white. Police have appealed for anyone who saw a white van in the area to come forward. Man jailed for killing A man has been jailed for two-and-a-half years for killing a 19-year-old man at a Berkshire pub. Thomas Jalland, 26, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday after he admitted killing Nicholas Pengelly. Pengelly, from Southcote, suffered severe head injuries during an attack in the Brewery Tap in Castle Street, Reading, on 27 April last year. He died the next day. Jalland, of Hamilton Road, Reading, had previously denied manslaughter, but at a hearing on 2 December, admitted the charge. Grieving pair offer reward A reward of £1,000 has been offered for information about the death of a student who suffered fatal head injuries while drinking in a South Wales pub on Christmas Eve. Peter Ostrowski was discovered unconscious outside the Rickards Arms in Treforest, Pontypridd, at 5am on Christmas Day. The 21-year-old was taken to hospital but his life-support machine was turned off three days later. Police said that it was unclear whether Ostrowski, abusiness studies student atthe University of Glamorgan, had been assaulted or howhe had come to receive his injuries. But they said he had been involved in an argument with another customer at the pub on Christmas Eve. On Friday, Ostrowski's parents put forward a £1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of their son's killer. Man barred for a year A man has been banned from a Lincoln pub for a year after he admitted being drunk and disorderly at the pub. Clive Brocklehurst, 49, of Skellingthorpe Road, Lincoln, appeared before local magistrates and was also given a one-year community rehabilitation order and told to pay £55 costs. The court heard police were called to the Barbican in St Mary's Street on 30 December after reports of inappropriate behaviour. Jim Clare, prosecuting, said officers asked Brocklehurst to calm down but he refused. "The manager asked for Brocklehurst to be removed due to his aggressive behaviour. He was abusive and refused to co-operate and continued to swear and shout," he added. Two gunmen take £5,000 A licensee was threatened with a gun and his partner was tied up during a raid at a Middlesex pub. Philip Evans from the Heath Tavern in Uxbridge Road, Hayes, was disturbed by a noise at around 12.30am on Friday and confronted by two men carrying guns. The gunmen threatened Evans and his girlfriend and forced them to the floor. They then demanded the host take them to his office while his partner was dragged to the bedroom, gagged and tied with tape. Evans was forced to hand over the night's takings ­ about £5,000 ­ then ordered to open the safe. He was hit on the head with a gun when he refused. Evans opened the safe, but it was empty. Both men are white and were wearing black ski masks, dark tops, jeans and trainers. One was wearing gloves and was around 5ft 9in tall.
