McMullen, the Hertfordshire-based brewer and pub operator, is offering four pubs on a ‘try-before-you-buy’ one-year agreement with reduced rent for the first six months.

Under the agreement, rent is set at £5,000 for the first six months, rising to £10,000 after that. There’s also a £50-per-barrel discount on tied products for the first six months and no purchase of fixtures and fittings is necessary during the agreement.

The Steamer in Welwyn; the Cannon Tavern in Ware; the Rose and Crown in Aston, all in Hertfordshire; and the Sixteen String Jack in Theydon Bois, Essex, are available under the deal.

Meanwhile, McMullen’s has announced two appointments to its board: Heydon Mizon, who will continue to head the managed house division as retail director, and company secretary Tom McMullen, who will continue in that role as well taking responsibility for strategic development.
