Sheps’ chief executive Jonathan Neame recently said he is more optimistic about the tenanted pub sector than he’s ever been during 23 years in the industry. This is despite the Government’s plan for a statutory code, which Neame predicted last year would never materialise. Away from the political glare, the pubco saw growth accelerate across its tenanted and managed pubs, upped support services and capex across the tenanted estate, launched a branded coffee concept and appointed a development chef to help boost tenants’ food offer.
