A west London pub has reopened with an emphasis on British pub dining seven days a week.

The Red Lemon, in Notting Hill, is owned and run by manageress Alli Kyle and head chef David Green – who met when working at nearby Portobello Road’s Electric Diner.

Green has worked at London venues Dean Street Townhouse, Hoxton Grill and Harvey Nichols’ 5th Floor Restaurant.

The new owners have pledged to focus on “well-sourced ingredients and menus put together with thought, creativity and flair”.

Bar snacks

The bar features British bar snacks such as spiced crab on toast or Red Lemon Scotch eggs –pig's trotter with mustard mayo and kedgeree with a mango chutney.

Starters include pork and Stilton pâté with apple chutney and walnut bread; or homemade saddleback pork brawn with Arran mustard relish.

Alongside pub classics, there are weekly-changing seasonal dishes such as pearl barley, wild mushrooms and goat’s cheese; or roast cod with puy lentils, bacon and salsa verde.

A number of dishes come with lava salted chips and homemade aioli mayonnaise.

A burger highlight is Red Lemon’s pure steak cheeseburger made with free range 100% Aberdeen Angus steak, supplied by Alli Kyle’s local family butcher Mackin Brothers.

Changing sandwiches

There are also daily changing sandwiches such as rare roast beef, mustard and onion rings; smoked salmon, crème fraiche and chives; and Quikes cheddar and St John’s chutney all for just £6.

Puddings include a chocolate and orange pot with brownie pieces and a changing range of ice creams and sorbets from Ice Cream Union, including a Gin & Tonic.

An all-day brunch menu takes over on Saturdays while roast takes centre stage on Sundays. Beef, chicken or pork are all served up with seasonal veg courtesy of Mash Purveyors from New Covent Garden Market.

Real ales include Portobello Pale and Portobello Star from the nearby brewery of the same name along with monthly changing guests ales.

Heineken, Amstel, Kronenburg, Peroni are the draught lager options. While bottles include Rekorderlig Pear, Strawberry and Lime and Hawkes Ginger Ale, BrewDog beers Punk IPA and 5am Saint.

Pub décor

Inside the pub, there are regularly changing art collections from local artists.

The interior design is muted grey walls, while hand-stitched filament light-bulbs hang over the bar.
