The Observatory, Blackburn
A Blackburn pub has reopened following major refurbishment works and the appointment of a new licensee.
The Observatory, owned by northern brewer Daniel Thwaites, was closed for four weeks after being taken over by beer trade aficionado Sarah Davenport.
During this time the pub underwent a “major cosmetic overhaul” and redesign of its food and drink menus.
As part of the redevelopment project, the pub has been modernised with a ‘shabby chic’ theme.
As well as Thwaites’ Wainwright and Lancaster Bomber, The Observatory will be introducing a range of cask ales on tap, as well as rotating seasonal and quarterly ranges.
The new-look menu includes baked Lancashire cheese and Nutty Black rarebit, Wainwright beer battered North Sea haddock and homemade Scotch eggs with a Bury black pudding and chorizo crust.
Andrew Buchanan, director of pubs and brewing, said: “The re-launch of The Observatory will see the pub return refreshed and better than ever. The level of investment by Thwaites signifies our commitment to our pub estate and confidence in Sarah and her team to deliver a truly outstanding pub.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have Sarah on board. She has a great amount of experience within the pub trade and we’ve no doubt that she will succeed in making the business an outstanding success.”
