6. Freemasons at Wiswell, Clitheroe, Lancashire
It's been a year of accolades for Freemasons at Wiswell chef patron Steven Smith. As well as coming sixth in the Top 50 Gastropubs list, his pub came first in the Good Food Guide's Top 50 Pubs for the second year in a row.
Recently speaking to the PMA, Smith said his pub's unique selling point was that despite the food on offer being "so far removed from pub food", the Freemasons had stayed true to its pub roots.
He said: "We're very proud, but we'll never stand still. Tomorrow's a new day."
Sample dishes: heritage potatoes cooked in bacon dashi with Scottish girolles, crispy hen's egg and Iberico ham, Bingley Moor grouse roasted with lavender and honey, fennel and peach and yakitori livers on toast, vanilla slice with Scottish raspberries, honeycomb and salted caramel ice cream.
